Summary

As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.

The 5200 Unit at Rochester General Hospital is a 26-bed, high-acuity cardiac and telemetry unit specializing in complex cardiac and medical care. This dynamic and fast-paced unit offers nurses the opportunity to develop expertise in interventional cardiology, telemetry, and LVAD management. Nurses working on the 5200 Unit will provide exceptional care for a diverse and high-acuity patient population, expanding their clinical skills in acute cardiac care and medical cardiac procedures.

Key Patient Populations And Procedures

Nurses on the 5200 Unit will develop specialized clinical skills in managing a diverse and complex patient population, including:

  • Complex Cardiac Patients: Care for patients with multiple co-existing medical conditions requiring specialized cardiac drips, such as amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, milrinone, nitroglycerin, lidocaine, and angiomax.
  • Intermediate Care for Cardiac Patients: Manage patients requiring temporary external pacing wires or defibrillators at the bedside for life-saving measures, with unit-based training provided by highly skilled nurses.
  • Chronic Heart Failure Care: Provide compassionate care for patients with chronic heart failure, including Sensivest readings for fluid management.
  • Acute Myocardial Infarctions (MI): Stabilize and transition patients to cardiac rehab when appropriate.
  • Post-Procedure Care for Cath Lab Patients: Care for patients post-device implantation (pacemakers, AICDs, stents), and manage arterial lines or femoral arterial sheaths for continuous blood pressure monitoring. Nurses may also perform pacemaker interrogations.
  • Electrophysiology (EP) Care: Monitor patients recovering from atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia ablations and/or cardioversions with continuous telemetry monitoring.
  • Advanced Valvular and Structural Heart Disease: Provide specialized care for patients post-valve replacements, including surgical site management and recovery.
  • Telemetry and Acute Medical Conditions: Provide close monitoring and intervention for patients with telemetry needs and acute medical conditions, including continuous oxygen monitoring, bair hugger devices for temperature regulation, and chest tube management.
  • LVAD Care: Provide specialized heart failure care for LVAD patients 60 days or more post-implant, supported by trained VAD RNs.

This role is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV / Clinical Nurse IV must complete the following:

  • Complete the Clinical Ladder binder within 12 months of employment
  • Minimum of 5 activities in each Pillar (Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution)
  • 15 Continuing education units (CEU's)
  • 20 Flex items

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital (RGH)

DEPARTMENT: Interventional Cardiology and LVAD Care

SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night - Every other weekend / holiday

Desired Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Service. Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; performing various treatment procedures; providing physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervising assigned team members
  • Planning & Communication. Develop and document individualized care plans customized for each patient’s unique needs, with support from the interdisciplinary health team as needed; maintain effective communication to convey patient health status, treatment plans and progress
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) Management. Demonstrate proficient use of an EHR – including accurate patient and provider documentation and communication
  • Compliance. Adhere to required department and system protocols, regulations (local, state, federal) and education requirements

BS: Nursing (Required)

Licenses / Certifications

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

Physical Requirements

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant.
